Whitney Moore Young, Jr. – Part of the Black Heritage Series, this stamp honors important civil rights leader Whitney Moore Young, Jr.

American Red Cross Centennial – Founded by Clara Barton in 1881 and chartered by Congress in 1901, the American Red Cross runs the world’s largest donor blood service.

Frederic Remington – Known for his action-filled paintings and sculptures of the Old West, Frederic Remington also served as a war correspondent during the Spanish-American War.

James Hoban – In 1792, a contest was held to pick the architect to design the official residence of the President of the United States.  Irish immigrant James Hoban spent the next eight years overseeing the construction of his winning design.

Battle of Yorktown and Virginia Capes – This pair of stamps recalls the final battle of the American Revolution.  After the British moved into Virginia, George Washington and the Comte de Rochambeau combined their French and American armies.  With the help of the French fleet, they joined Lafayette and attacked Yorktown.  The British commander, Cornwallis, was forced to surrender, bringing an end to the war and the beginning of American independence.

John Hanson – Celebrates the memory of the man many call the “first President of the United States.”  Hanson became President of the Continental Congress – an office he held for one year – prior to George Washington’s election as President under the Constitution.
