Canadian Centennial ((#1324) – This stamp commemorates the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Articles of Confederation, which established Canada as part of the British Commonwealth. The Canadian Centennial issue was the first U.S. stamp to have first day ceremonies and cancellation on foreign soil (Montreal).
Henry David Thoreau (#1327) – Issued in commemoration of the 150th birthday of Henry David Thoreau, the American author who for two years lived in solitude in a cabin so he could observe and contemplate nature.
Twin Space Commemorative Stamps (#1331-32) – Issued in conjunction with NASA’s 9th anniversary, the design on these stamps features an astronaut in space with his capsule. Originally issued attached, both designs celebrate the accomplishments of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Christmas (#1336) – The sixth U.S. Christmas issue utilizes the same design as the previous year, the “Madonna and Child With Angels,” by Hans Memling. However, because the stamp is nearly twice the size of the original issue, greater detail can be enjoyed.
