# UNV465-68 - 2010 United Nations Endangered Species
The United Nations issued its 18th set of the U.N. Endangered Species series, featuring vulnerable plant species. The Vienna stamps feature the pincushion cactus (mammillaria zeilmanniana), hoodia (hoodia gordonii), tree tumbo (welwitschia mirabilis), and the crown of thorns (euphorbia milii).
The bristlecone pine species includes the oldest-known living organism – a tree named “Methuselah.” It is recorded as 4,842 years old as of 2010 (through ring-counting analysis).
The Endangered Species stamps raise awareness of animal and plant species on the verge of extinction. A new species group has been featured each year since the program began in 1993. This was the first U.N. set designed by nature artist Rosie Sanders of the United Kingdom.
