World Heritage – France
The twelfth addition to the World Heritage Series showcased six of the thirty world heritage sites in France in 2006.
Carcassonne, a medieval fortified town with a fine Gothic cathedral and castle, is seen on one Vienna stamp. On the other Vienna stamp is the Chateau de Chambord, a famous castle in the Loire Valley. The area is known for its architectural heritage. Castles and other structures in the Loire Valley represent designs which came out of the Renaissance and the Age of Enlightenment.
