# UNG698-703 - 2021 1,00 & 1,50 Sport for Peace, 2 Strips of 4, UN Geneva
Keep Your United Nations Stamp Collection Up to Date
These Sport for Peace stamps were issued by the Geneva Office of the United Nations in 2021. The 2020 Summer Olympic Games were originally scheduled to be held in Tokyo in 2020. However, the global COVID-19 pandemic put a halt to activities and forced a rescheduling of the international competition. By summer 2021, vaccinations had become readily available. Despite the continuing pandemic, safety precautions allowed the games to be held from July 23 to August 8. The event was intended to bring positivity and hope to the world and show that COVID-19 had not won. To celebrate the games, the United Nations Postal Administration issued six stamp sheets (each featuring three designs) and three souvenir sheets featuring various events of the Summer Olympic Games. They included original illustrations by Japanese artist Satoshi Hashimoto.
