# UNG517-18 - 2010 United Nations Biodiversity
2010 Definitives
The U.N. issued a set of stamps to commemorate 2010 as the “International Year of Biodiversity.” The stamps are designed to raise awareness of the vital role biodiversity (wide variety of life forms) plays in complex environments around the world.
The Geneva stamps show a spider and a starfish. The stamp images were selected from a series of illustrated books called Art Forms from Nature, published by German biologist Ernst Heinrich Haeckel from 1899-1904.
