# UNG457-58 - 2006 International Day of Families
International Day of Families
In 1993, the UN General Assembly proclaimed that the International Day of Families shall be observed on May 15th each year. This proclamation reflects the importance that the international community attaches to the family, the basic unit of society. The annual observance of this day gives attention to family-related issues.
In 2006, two stamps from each UN office focused on different contributions of family life. The Geneva issues tell the world that education and development start with families.
