This is the purpose of the World Heritage Convention, adopted by UNESCO in 1972. Six sites in Japan are featured on these stamps.
The F.s. 1,10 stamp features the historic monuments of ancient Nara. The main Shrine of Itsukushima, the holy place of Shintoism, is seen on the F.s. 1,30 stamp.
