The World Heritage List was established under terms of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage adopted in 1972 at the 17th General Conference of UNESCO. Inclusion on the list means that the site will be protected for the enjoyment and betterment of all mankind. The six stamps in this issue are - Grand Canyon U.S.A., one of the most spectacular canyons in the world; Polonnaruwa, an ancient temple in Sri Lanka; the Fort of St. Angelo in Vittoriosa, Malta; a glacier in Argentina; the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, and the ancient town of Shibam in Yemen.
