2010 44c Endangered Species

The United Nations issued its 18th set of the U.N. Endangered Species series, featuring vulnerable plant species.  The New York stamps show the monkey puzzle tree (araucaria araucana), the quiver tree (aloe dichotoma), the bristlecone pine (pinus longaeva), and the scarlet ball cactus (parodia haselbergii).  

The Endangered Species stamps raise awareness of animal and plant species on the verge of extinction.  A new species group has been featured each year since the program began in 1993.  This was the first U.N. set designed by nature artist Rosie Sanders of the United Kingdom.
