Endangered Species
This is the fourteenth issue of the Endangered Species Series, introduced in 1993 to focus attention on protection of endangered species worldwide. The 2006 issues feature six frogs, four of them poisonous, three chameleons, and three boas.
The New York stamps display a small frog, known as the golden mantella, and the large panther chameleon. Both of these are from Madagascar. Also represented is the dyeing poison frog and the Peruvian rainbow boa. The boa is a constrictor snake that lives in forests and swamps in South America. Its name refers to the iridescent sheen of its skin.
