2001 Endangered Species
The ninth installment of the Endangered Species series, which began in 1993, was issued February 1, 2001. These 12 stamps feature an international array of flora and fauna whose existence is threatened.
 
Depicted on the 34¢ stamps are the common spotted cuscus, the resplendent quetzal, the Gila monster, and the guereza. The resplendent quetzal is Guatemala’s national symbol and appears on many Guatemala stamps. Poachers hunt the birds for their magnificent plumage.
