The International Conference on Population and Development met in Egypt in 1994 to construct an action plan for population control in the coming decades. Varying religious beliefs about family planning disrupted the Conference. That issue had to be tabled before the members could agree on the direction to be taken in the immediate future.
Family planning and family well-being are the themes represented on the 29¢ New York stamp. The 52¢ stamp represents the social and economic changes that occur with changes in family size.
