Earth Summit took place in Rio de Janeiro in June, 1992, and focused on the “greenhouse effect.” Braldt Bralds of the Netherlands, creator of Survival of the Forests (1988) and Clean Oceans (1992), illustrates the “greenhouse effect” on these se-tenant stamps.

The central image of the 29¢ se-tenant shows the poisonous effects of pollution. Healthy-looking animals and plant life flee from the center. The chameleon, a symbol of adaption to change, and the bird of paradise, fleeing towards ever-shrinking safety, symbolize the enormity of the “greenhouse effect.”
