This issue is devoted to the seventh group of sixteen flag stamps. Honored are: New Zealand, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Maldives, Ethiopia, Jordan, and Zambia.

Burkina Faso is located in western Africa.  Formerly called Upper Volta, in 1984 its name was changed to Burkina Faso, which means “Land of the honest people.”  Though the name of this former French colony has changed, its flag, adopted in 1948, remains the same.

This unique series of stamps was launched in 1980 to honor Member States of the United Nations. The series has afforded the public an opportunity to enjoy the same colorful and varied designs seen on the flags flying outside United Nations Headquarters.
