# UN366-67 - 1981 Volunteer Program, 10th Anniv.
The United Nations Volunteers (U.N.V.) was established in 1971 for the purpose of directing professional men and women, on a volunteer basis, into development-assistance activities. They are volunteers in the true sense of the word. Each has a two-year commitment, with only a monthly allowance adequate for life’s necessities. Their unique contribution lies in their ability to share skills at the working level.
