Get the 2020 Edition of the Members’ Flags Series

On August 20, 2020, the UN office in New York issued eight stamps as part of the Flag series.  Like the other stamps in this series, the eight stamps were produced in two blocks of four.

Belarus changed its flag after the Soviet Union fell and the nation gained its independence.  Mauritania added red bands to its flag in 2017 to symbolize the sacrifices of its people.   The redesigned flags of Bahrain, Brazil, Cyprus, Dominica, Mongolia, and Paraguay are also pictured.

The Flags series began in 1980 with the goal of picturing the flag of each UN member state.  That was accomplished in 1989 and the series ended.  Eight years later, there were new member states, or countries had changed their names or the design on their flags.  As a result, the series began again to show the updated flags.
