The 2020 addition to the long-running United Nations Endangered Species series features migratory animals. The stamps issued by the New York office picture a great hammerhead shark (Sphyrna mokarran), Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus), Andean flamingo (Phoenicoparrus andinus) and argali sheep (Ovis ammon).
The stamps were designed by UNPA artist Rorie Katz. They were issued on February 17, the opening day of the 13th session of Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS COP13). The theme of the convention was “Migratory species connect the planet and together we welcome them home.” The United Nations Postal Administration partnered with this organization, as well as the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in issuing these stamps.
