Flag Stamps Highlight Changes in Member’s Flags
On February 3, 2017, the United Nations Postal Administration issued eight stamps (with four designs per sheet) picturing some updated flags from UN member states. The four flags featured on these stamps represent Congo, Ethiopia, Georgia, and Iraq.
The original Flag series began in 1980 and concluded in 1989. During that time, the flags and official names of every UN member state was honored. The series started up again in 1997 and featured new member states that had been admitted since the series ended.
A new aspect of the Flag stamp series began in 2013 to acknowledge member states that had made changes to their flag’s design or the official name of their nation. These stamps show some of those design changes.
