1962 Operation in the Congo

This issue commemorates U.N. efforts to assist in restoring law and order in the Congo.  In response to an appeal from the Congolese government, the Security Council approved both civilian aid and a special U.N. force.  This force totaled 20,000 at its peak, helping the Congolese government regain control of the country and restore order.  The troops were withdrawn in June of 1964.
