STS-83 Launch and Return Cover
Own Limited-Edition Columbia STS-83 Silk Covers
Produced by Colorano, this set of seven covers honors important moments from the Space Shuttle Columbia’s 22nd mission, STS-83 (the 83th mission of the Space Shuttle program).
These popular Colorano covers feature “silk” cachets that are produced through a special screening process and then bonded to the envelope. Each cachet pictures a photo from the mission and is surrounded by a golden border. The covers all bear patriotic US stamps and cancellations relating to events from the mission. You can discover the story behind each one with the informative captions next to the cachets.
Launched on April 4, 1997, STS-83 carried the Microgravity Science Laboratory, an international collaborative designed to study the effects of microgravity. The mission was supposed to last for more than 15 days but was cut short due to a Fuel Cell problem. The Columbia landed successfully on April 8.
