Walking Liberty Half Dollars
The Walking Libety Half Dollar coin is known for its beauty and craftsmanship. It pictures a design by well-known sculptor Adolph Weinman of the goddess Liberty with the American flag waving behind her. She holds laurel and oak branches, symbols of civil and military glory. The reverse design pictures an eagle with its wings spread. The Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin was produced in 90% silver by the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints. It entered circulation in January 1917 and was immediately popular. At first, the mint mark was placed on the "heads" side, but was later moved to the "tails" side. The design remained the same until 1947, when it was replaced by the Franklin Half Dollar coin.
