These few precious sheets spent over 40 years stored in the vaults of the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, keeping them in pristine condition, but out of reach to collectors. In 2006 the museum put the sheets up for auction, with bidding going as high as $20,000 for each. Today Mystic is lucky to own all them all! That means the sheets, plus their six cross gutter blocks and a small number of gutter pairs are available only from Mystic.
The uncut press sheets (four panes of 50 stamps) are the only source of the extremely rare cross gutter blocks, plus a small quantity of sought-after gutter pairs. Why are the Uncut Press Sheets and Cross Gutter Blocks So Rare?
Only these six full sheets were put aside during production. All others were cut down into panes, destroying the cross gutter blocks! Since there’s only one cross gutter block per sheet, there are only six of these rare blocks in the world. Both types of gutter pairs are rare, too, especially the horizontal, with just eight per sheet.

The stamps on each sheet are in mint-fresh condition with very fine centering, and never hinged with original gum.
