This stamp was produced by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in accordance with the Civil War Tax Act of 1862. This act authorized a levy on businesses and occupations with gross receipts over $1,000 per year. Section 3 of the tax act stated that these taxes were to be paid by special tax stamps. These were the largest revenue stamps ever issued by the government at 7 1/2" x 14 3/4" and were printed from 1873 to 1885. Most were produced in booklets of 10 with each year having a different color paper. Get yours today.
