• Four 1941 Big Plane stamps picture an aircraft that didn’t exist – if it did, the bottom of the tail would be torn off as it took off. Design based on the DC-3, Lockheed Electra and Beech 18.
• Up until 1925 the government flew the mail. Then, private companies were contracted, and the 15¢ and 20¢ Biplane Map stamps were issued for that service. Ford was the first contractor that flew mail.
• 1952 80¢ Hawaii Fountainhead stamp paid rate for an orchid from Hawaii to the States.
• 1948 5¢ airplane shows DC-4 Sky Master, which played a critical role in the Allied war effort and the Berlin Airlift of 1948-49. First airmail coil stamp.
