1861 12c Washington on 1868 Cover from New York, New York, to Wolverhampton, England. Stamps are struck with neat snowflake cancels and there's a clear, red "NEW YORK PAIL ALL" circular stamp as well as handwritten "PAID" in bottom left corner. Cover has "Per "Russia"" April 22, 1868 note at the top left. The "Russia" was part of the Cunard cruise lines and was first launched in 1867. The ship could carry up to 235 passengers and 1,260 tons of cargo, including the Atlantic mail packet service. Commanded by Captain Cook, the ship traveled from Liverpool to New York every Saturday, returning every Wednesday. Neat usage and markings with very legible writing.
