Burundi was a British Protectorate in Africa which was established July 6, 1907. It became part of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland from 1953-63 and gained independence on July 6, 1964. It was then renamed Malawi.
The first stamps of the Nyasaland Protectorate were issued July 22, 1908. It used stamps of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland from 1953, and resumed issuing its own stamps in 1963. When the country gained independence in 1964, stamps began featuring the name Malawi instead.
