More About Yemen...
Yemen is a country in Western Asia on the southern end of the Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the north and Oman to the northeast. It's shares maritime borders with Eritrea, Djibouti, and Somalia. Its capital and largest city is Sana'a.
The first postage stamps of Yemen were issued in 1926 after the withdraw of the Ottoman Empire postal system from the country. Since Yemen was not yet part of the Universal Postal Union at that time, any international mail required stamps to be added from a country that was a member. This meant international mail often went through Aden which was a British protectorate at the time. Once Yemen joined the UPU, this was no longer necessary. During Yemen's civil war from 1962 to 1970, each side issued their own stamps. This continued until Yemen was reunified on May 22, 1990. You'll enjoy discovering all the neat stamps in this collection.
