Why the stamps were issued:  To celebrate the holiday season and the tradition of Christmas carols as well as classic religious symbols.

About the stamp designs:  Each stamp pictures a different image of the Christian Christmas story along with lyrics from a well-known Christmas carol.  The selvage includes an illustration of a shepherd watching over his flock of sheep.  The images were by print specialist Tom Duxbury.
