In 2022, Great Britain issued this set of eight mint stamps (four se-tenant pairs) to honor the role British artists and writers have played in the popular franchise since it was created in 1984. The Transformers popularity in the UK grew especially thanks to the seven-year, 332-issue Transformers comic book series. In addition to captivating fans across the nation, the comics showcased the creativity and artistry of Britain’s comic creators, and inspired a new generation of comic developers.
These stamps feature exclusive artwork by three long-time Transformers comic artists: Andrew Wildman (pencils), Stephen Baskerville (ink), and John-Paul Bove (colors). Each pair of stamps pictures an Autobot and Decepticon engaged in battle: Optimus Prime and Megatron, Bumblebee and Starscream, Grimlock and Shockwave, and Arcee and Soundwave.
The original stamp art is reminiscent of the retro 1980s style. But the stamps are infused with a couple of modern twists… They’re printed with a special ink that when exposed to UV light reveal logos, character names, and more. Plus, the stamps can be scanned with the Royal Mail app to view Augmented Reality animations and see clips from the original Transformers television show.
