Disney Pals Ride Tres Grand Vitesse

In 1987 Gambia issued this fun souvenir sheet picturing France's Tres Grande Vitesse, or TGV, whose first line opened in 1981.  In 2007, a specially equipped TGV set a record for the fastest train with wheels when it attained a speed of over 350 mph.  The success of the TGV has been so great, the president of the national rail company called it “The train that saved French railways.”

This stamp also commemorates Mickey's 60th anniversary.  Since his debut in the short film Steamboat Willie in 1928, Mickey has become one of the most recognizable cartoon characters in the world.
