Re-discover The Lion King
Issued in 1998, this touching Dominica souvenir sheet pictures a scene from the 1994 Disney animated hit, The Lion King. It shows Simba and Nala as they fell in love.
The Lion King has been called the “Bambi of the ‘90s.” It deals with the same themes as the earlier movie: the importance of family and the connection between all living things.
The Lion King utilized some of Hollywood’s biggest stars to bring its characters to life. These included: James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Jeremy Irons as Scar, Rowan Atkinson as Zazu, and Matthew Broderick as the adult Simba. Whoopie Goldberg, Cheech Marin, and Jim Cummings played the roles of the hyenas. Timon and Pumba’s voices were provided by veteran Broadway performers Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella.
The Lion King’s five songs were written by pop music legend Elton John in collaboration with Tim Rice. Hans Zimmer provided the movie’s score and orchestrated the John and Rice songs. Zimmer, John, and Rice all received Oscars for their work on the movie. “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” was honored as the year’s Best Original Song.
