This fun set of nine 1993 Dominica stamps features scenes from the 1946 short, Willie the Operatic Whale, also known as The Whale Who Wanted To Sing At At the Met.
Released as part of the feature, Make Mine Music, it tells the story of whale that captivates sailors and other sea life with his beautiful singing. When word of his talents reaches the human world, Tetti-Tatti, an Opera Director, is convinced that he has swallowed three opera singers and sets out to rescue them. Willie sings for Tetti, and imagines himself before huge crowds in grand theaters. However, Tetti still isn't convinced and shoots Willie with a harpoon. But in the end, we find out that Willie is singing sold-out concerts in heaven.
