Both from Johnson's Island with 3¢ Rose (US #65) stamps. Single frankings, blue cork cancels. Blue "Midway KY" c.d.s, censor oval handstamps on reverse. Addressed to Lt. Col. John W. Inzer 32nd & 58th Alabama Infantry Regts. Backflaps missing, otherwise Very Fine condition.
Interesting historical note: Johnson's Island on the coast of Lake Erie, just 3 miles from Sandusky, Ohio, was the location of a prisoner-of-war camp for captured Confederate officers during the Civil War. At the beginning of the war, it was the only Union prison camp only for Confederate officers. (As the war went on, it held other types of prisoners-of-war as well.)
