Own New York City Poster Stamps
By the American Banknote Company
See the sights of New York City on exquisitely engraved 1939 poster stamps printed by the American Banknote Company. These labels were created as advertisements for Eaton’s Fine Letter Papers.
The labels picture the Brooklyn Bridge, the Pennsylvania Railroad’s Broadway Limited, the New York Public Library, the Little Church Around the Corner, the George Washington Bridge, Columbia University, Central Park, the US luxury liner Manhattan, a view of New York from the air, and a flagship over downtown New York. Fine engraving brings out all the neat details.
Interestingly, these Poster stamps ended up looking so much like true postage stamps that some people began trying to use them to send mail. The US Post Office Department ended up telling Eaton to discontinue the Poster stamps. The American Bank Note Company destroyed the printing plates and no one knows for sure how many of these Poster stamps exist, and this (along with their neat history) has made them quite popular with collectors. You'll love owning them, too, so order yours today.
