More About Uganda...
Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa. It is bordered by Kenya to the east, South Sudan to the north, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, Rwanda to the southwest, and Tanzania to the south. Its capital and largest city is Kampala.
The first stamps used by Uganda were the 1890 issues of the British East Africa Company, then, in 1895, the Uganda Cowries mission stamps were issued – today they are considered some of the rarest and most valuable postage stamps in the world. In 1898, Uganda Protectorate stamps were issued, after which followed a period of joint postal administrations. From 1903-1922, East Africa & Uganda stamps were used, followed by Kenya & Uganda stamps from 1922-27, and Uganda & Tanganyika/Tanzania from 1935-1976.
Uganda issued its firs independent stamps on October 9, 1962, though previous issues remained valid for postage through 1976.
