Mint Stamp Tribute to Oskar Schindler

This meaningful mint souvenir sheet was issued in 2015 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.  It honors Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist that saved the lives of 1,200 Jewish people during the Holocaust.

Schindler owned enamelware and ammunitions factories that employed Jewish workers.  During the war, he paid vast sums of his own money to keep them working in his factories, rather than being sent to concentration camps.  By the war’s end, he spent his entire fortune to save their lives.  After the war, Jewish relief organizations helped support him and he was later buried on Mount Zion.
