# M12124 - 1998 Robert F. Kennedy Silver Dollar, Uncirculated & JFK Silver Half w/Matte Finish
Own a Set of Coins Honoring John and Bobby Kennedy
Includes First JFK Half-Dollar with Matte Finish
In 1998, the US Mint released a special Silver Dollar coin honoring the 30th anniversary of the death of Robert F. Kennedy. A limited number of these coins were released as a special set with the John F. Kennedy Half-Dollar with a matte finish. The matte finish was achieved by adding two additional steps to the minting process. First, the face of the coin dies was sandblasted and second the hard chrome plate was added for hardness. This gave the coins an interesting finely frosted texture.
The portrait on the front of the Robert F. Kennedy coin was designed with the aid of Kennedy’s wife. The back of the coin pictures the Seals of the Department of Justice and the US Senate, where Kennedy had served as Attorney General and Senator respectively. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Robert Kennedy coins went to the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.
Only about 62,000 of these sets were produced, and many have already been secured in permanent collections. This is your opportunity to make these hard to find coins yours – order now.
