Own a Silver Dollar Coin That Helped Build the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center
Only 1 Available!
This 90% silver uncirculated dollar was issued in 2001 to help raise funds for the US Capitol Visitor Center. At the time, the US Capitol received about 5 million visitors every year, and didn’t have the proper space to accommodate them. The Visitor Center broke ground in 2000. This coin was authorized by Congress to promote the new visitor center and help cover the cost of the construction. The Capitol Visitor Center opened on December 2, 2008. This was the 145th anniversary of the day the Statue of Freedom was placed atop the Capitol dome.
The front of the coin pictures the original US Capitol with the date “1800” and the modern Capitol with the date “2001.” The back pictures an eagle and shield with a banner reading “US Capitol Visitor Center.” You’ll want to see this coin in-person to appreciate all the fine details. It’ll make a great addition to your collection.
