# IC 1974V - 1974 Inauguration Cover - Vice-President Nelson A. Rockefeller
1974 Rockefeller Inaugural Cover
Inaugural Covers are those that are canceled on the same day a President and Vice President are sworn into office. The most prized are those that are canceled in Washington, D.C. Many early Inauguration Covers have a standard black bar cancel. Covers issued more recently often have pictorial cancels or may simply say, âInauguration Day.â
A fun part of Inaugural Covers is that they will always feature patriotic stamps. These can include the American Flag, Statue of Liberty, the nationâs capital and more. Inaugural covers are a different part of collecting youâll enjoy discovering.
Founding Of Dartmouth CollegeÂ
The man responsible for the establishment of Dartmouth was Connecticut Congregational minister Eleazar Wheelock. Prior to opening Dartmouth, Wheelock hoped to open a school to train Native Americans to become Christian missionaries. He eventually founded Moorâs Indian Charity School in 1755, but soon needed additional funds to keep the school open.
When Dartmouth was first founded in 1769, its charter declared it to be a private school âforever.â When the states became independent, they agreed to abide by the rights and privileges of such charters. Then in 1816, New Hampshire attempted to make Dartmouth a state university by negating its charter. The issue went all the way to the Supreme Court.
