The stamps of Israel first appeared two days after the state of Israel was declared on May 14th, 1948. Israel stamps are a fascinating area of collecting. One of the most exciting elements of Israel stamps is that they are printed with attached “tabs”. These unique tabs carry marginal inscriptions which often give additional information about the stamp’s subject. Israel stamps are tri-lingual – they have inscriptions in three languages: Hebrew, Arabic, and English. The watermark on some Israel stamps is that of a running stag or gazelle. This is a reference to an early Judaic design relating to the 12 tribes of Israel. The graceful animal is also the logo of Israel Post.
