Bermuda
Bermuda is a British Crown Colony in the Atlantic Ocean. It began issuing stamps in 1865. Until Queen Victoria’s death in 1901, her portrait appeared on all Bermuda stamps. Bermuda’s 1935 stamps celebrating the Silver Jubilee (25th year of King George V’s reign) are part of a beautifully engraved omnibus issue. (The same designs appearing on the stamps of other members of the Commonwealth.) Also called “common design types”, the stamps are issued to commemorate important events. To learn more about common design issues of Britain and other countries, check the front of each volume of the Scott Catalogue. If you’re looking to start a specialty or side collection, it’s a neat area to explore.
