# CSA3 - 1861 2c Confederate States - Andrew Jackson - green, soft paper (Hoyer & Ludwig)
Confederate States of America #3
2¢ Andrew Jackson issued in early 1862. I’ve always been fascinated by Confederate stamps. The Union embargoed trade with the Confederacy to pressure an end to the war and since the security printers were all in the North, the rebels were forced to use lower quality stone (actual stones) printing plates for the first five stamps issued. Later, steel engraved plates were smuggled from London to Richmond and Confederate stamp quality improved.
