Confederacy Prints Stamp
To be Used as Small Change...
Faced with a shortage of coins, the Confederacy printed 20¢ Washington stamps to be used primarily as currency. The historic stamp was also used postally to pay the 20-cent overweight double-letter rate. Pairs paid the 40-cent Trans-Mississippi rate. However, postal use was rare – and as you can see, genuine examples are scarce and command higher prices.
