This coin honors the 1970 documentary, Elvis: That’s the Way It Is. Released in November 1970, the documentary followed Elvis’ Summer Festival in Las Vegas. His first non-dramatic film since beginning his acting career in 1956, That’s the Way It Is chronicled Elvis’ return to live performances. While the majority of the film featured his live performance at Las Vegas’ International Hotel, the documentary also included some neat behind-the-scenes footage and other performances.
Also included was Elvis’ performance at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum on September 9, 1970, which was the first show of his first tour in 13 years. The film also had rehearsal footage of Elvis and his band and back-up vocalists, The Sweet Inspirations. Other segments included the raffling of a tandem bike Elvis once owned and other musicians performing Elvis’ songs. The film’s soundtrack was Elvis’ last, as his Elvis On Tour documentary didn’t have a soundtrack release.
