Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar. The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
Elvis’s Shatters Attendance Records
This coin commemorates a string of Elvis concerts at the Houston Astrodome that broke the venue’s attendance records. The shows also marked his first public appearance in 10 years. Elvis arrived in Houston on February 25, 1970. He held a press conference and then checked into the Astroworld Hotel.
Over three days, Elvis performed six concerts to sold-out audiences as part of the Livestock Show and Rodeo. The Saturday matinee was the Dome’s largest afternoon crowd ever – totaling over 34,000. And that evening’s performance was attended by over 43,600 screaming fans – the most people ever to attend a show at the rodeo. In all, over 300,000 fans attended the Elvis shows that weekend.
Following his last performance, Elvis held a press conference where he was given a gold Rolex from the Houston Livestock Association for breaking the Dome’s attendance records. Elvis and the Colonel were also presented with plaques naming them lifetime members of the show. Among the other gifts Elvis received were a gold Deputy Sheriff’s badge and a Stetson hat.
