Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar.  The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.

Spin Out

Elvis’ popular single “Spinout” was written for the 1966 film of the same name.  The soundtrack was considered one of Elvis’ best in years, for the return to the rock style that made him famous.  The title track, along with the rest of the movie soundtrack, was recorded at Radio Recorders in February 1966.

The single sold over one million copies and spent seven weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100, peaking at number 40.  “Spinout” was written by Sid Wayne, Ben Weisman, and Dolores Fuller, three of Elvis’ most consistent songwriters.

Sid Wayne is most known for writing such Elvis hits as “It’s Impossible” and the top ten Billboard smash hit “I Need Your Love Tonight.”  Throughout the 1950s and 60s, Wayne wrote or collaborated on at least one song from almost all of Elvis’ movies of the era.  One of his best-known collaborators was Ben Weisman.

Almost sixty songs Ben Weisman wrote for Elvis went gold or platinum.  He was one of Elvis’ favorite songwriters.  Hits such as “Got a Lot of Living to Do” and “Follow That Dream” made Elvis famous and cemented Weisman as one of the top songwriters of the era.  In fact, Elvis recorded more of Weisman’s songs than those written by any other songwriter.  Weisman was also influential in helping a fellow songwriter get her start – Dolores Fuller.

Dolores Fuller, an actress-turned songwriter, first wanted to act in Presley’s “Blue Hawaii” – but was encouraged by a friend to explore her musical writing talents.  This resulted in her writing such hits for Elvis as “Rock-A-Hula Baby,” with Ben Weisman, and “I Got Lucky.”  She would go on to write over a dozen songs for Elvis as well as songs for other popular artists such as Nat King Cole and Peggy Lee.
