# CNS2086 - Elvis Presley "A Mess of Blues" US Half Dollar Commemorative Coin
Elvis Presley is rightly called the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He is credited with 54 certified gold singles – more than any other recording artist ever! This coin highlights one of those songs that sold at least 500,000 copies.
Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar. The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
A Mess of Blues
More than a million copies of Elvis’ 1960 smash hit “A Mess of Blues” were sold. Recorded at RCA’s Nashville studio during his first recording session since returning from the Army, it was released as a single with “It’s Now or Never.” The gritty blues number spent 11 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 list, peaking at number 32 in the US, and it spent 18 weeks peaking at number 2 in the UK.
“A Mess of Blues” was written by the songwriting team of Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman. Although he refused the first song they submitted to him, Elvis had a string of hits in the 1960s written by these future Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame songwriters. Among them were “Surrender,” “Suspicion,” “Viva Las Vegas,” “Girl Happy,” “Double Trouble,” and “You’ll Think of Me.”
