# CNS2081 - Elvis Prsley "Viva Las Vegas" US Half Dollar Commemorative Coin
Elvis Presley is rightly called the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He is credited with 54 certified gold singles – more than any other recording artist ever! This coin highlights one of those songs that sold at least 500,000 copies.
Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar. The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
Viva Las Vegas
Elvis recorded his hit “Viva Las Vegas” in July 1963, at Radio Recorders in Los Angeles. The song spent seven weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 29. It attained gold status on March 27, 1992.
“Viva Las Vegas” was recorded for the 1964 romantic musical film of the same name. The film is a fan favorite and has been noted for the on-screen chemistry between Elvis and co-star Ann-Margret. The scene in which Elvis performed the title track is the only one in his career that showed the entire song in one uncut take filmed by a single camera.
Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman wrote “Viva LasVegas.” Interestingly, Pomus, who wrote the lyrics, had never been to Las Vegas before he wrote the song. Pomus and Shuman were both well-known singers and songwriters. Some of their hit songwriting collaborations included “A Teenager in Love,” “Save the Last Dance For Me,” “This Magic Moment,” “Can’t Get Used to Losing You,” and “Little Sister.”
