Elvis Presley is rightly called the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.  He is credited with 54 certified gold singles – more than any other recording artist ever!  This coin highlights one of those songs that sold at least 500,000 copies.

Mystic has permanently bonded a vibrant image of Elvis to this uncirculated US Half Dollar.  The coin features an original photograph of Presley from his estate’s official archives and is officially licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises.

Moody Blue

Elvis recorded “Moody Blue” at Graceland – reportedly in the Jungle Room – and released it with “She Thinks I Still Care” on the flip side.  The single spent 13 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and peaked at #31.  It fared better on other Billboard charts, reaching #1 on the Country and #2 on Easy Listening.  “Moody Blue” was written by songwriter Mark James, who learned to play violin, electric guitar, and keyboards by the age of 12.  After earning a following by touring Texas and Louisiana during the ‘50s – much like Elvis – James had a regional hit with “Jive Note.”  James’ real success, however, came with five songs recorded by Elvis: “Suspicious Minds,” “Always on My Mind,” “It’s Only Love,” and “Raised on Rock,” as well as “Moody Blue.”

In 1979, producers of a projected movie about the life of the King of Rock and Roll approached James and asked him to write a song for the film.  Drawing on his own memories, James wrote Blue Suede Heaven in honor of Elvis.  The movie project was abandoned, but James entertained fans at the 1984 and 1985 Elvis Presley Week celebrations in Memphis.
